Add Hyperlinks to Other Websites or Other Pages on Your site
Adding a link to another page on your website
When adding or editing content on a page, you may want to include a link to some other page on your site. For example, you may have a short introductory sentence on your home page about one of your libraries services, at the end of which you would include a link to the “Services” page where the user could find more details. Follow these steps to complete that task:
- You first need to obtain the URL for that page. At the top of the main content management dashboard, or at the bottom left of any of the add / edit content popup screens, you’ll see a link entitled “Link Builder”. When you select that link, a popup box will appear that lets you identify the page that you’d like to link to. When the URL appears in the form, highlight and copy that url (Ctrl-C), and close the link builder window.
- Back in the Add / Edit content screen, type in some text that will be used for the link.
- Highlight the text that you just typed in, and click the “Link” icon in the toolbar (first icon on the left in the second row).
- The cursor will already be placed in the URL field. Simply paste in the URL that you previously copied (Ctrl-V).
- Click the green OK button
- Save your changes
Adding a link to an external website
- Type in the text that will appear as the link (NOTE: For accessibility purposes, make sure that the text is explanatory. For example, don’t just type “Click here”, and create a link using that text, as that does not give sight-impaired users any indication of what the link is supposed to provide. Instead, use language like this: “More information about our delivery service is available here…”)
- Highlight the text and click the “Link” icon in the toolbar (first icon on the left in the second row).
- The cursor will already be placed in the URL field. Type or paste in the URL of the website that you are linking to
- Click the green OK button
- Save your changes
